Carl Shutt opened the scoring after just twenty seconds, when he rifled in a rebound after Lee Chapman's shot from a Mark Ford cross had hit the post. Lee Chapman, in the twenty-sixth minute, after a flick on from a Steve Hodge corner, and Mark Ford, in the thirty-fifth minute saw Leeds with a comfortable 3-0 lead at the Half-Time break. Lee Chapman rounded off the scoring five minutes later with his second and the game was beyond Liverpool. United chose not to use any substitutes and Gary O'Hara, Gary Lyman, Jason Blunt and Paul Wharton remained on the bench unused. The game was played at Queensgate, Bridlington.
